Frequently Asked Questions

Taking on a new project like building or renovating a home can be a daunting task for a lot of people. Below are some of the frequently asked questions that we receive from our clients. Still have a question and want to talk to one of the team click contact us in the menu.

How long does it take to design a house?

With the current state of the industry time frames are very volatile and we make sure our clients are very aware of this from the beginning to avoid any frustrations.

When it comes to designing your home our team will always endeavour to work to a two week turnaround per issue of drawings. As an example after your first consultation with the team you can expect to receive your sketch concept drawings within two weeks. Once you have provided your feedback your next issue of drawings will be issued within two weeks of receiving your feedback.

Other factors that can have an impact on the length of time to design your house are waiting for documents and information from external consultants, approvals from Council, information from builders and your personal commitments.

How much does it cost to design a house?

All projects are different in size and requirements and therefore we tailor our fees to suit our clients needs. If choosing to work with us you will always receive a detailed fee proposal prior to work commencing. This fee proposal doubles as a contract of engagement and on return of the signed contract work will commence on your project and a deposit will need to be paid.

What is included in my fees?

At the start of every project you will receive a detailed fee proposal that outlines the individual stages of your project and the fees applicable. It will also include valuable information around the various stages of drawings that will be completed along with any additional fees or requirements for your project. Our drawings will always include both 2D and 3D drawings so that you are able to get the full picture of what your house will look like.

Are there additional fees that I will be charged by Jazz Designs?

Our fees include two revisions for our concept stages and preliminary working drawings stage. Any additional changes made after the two included revisions will be charged at an hourly rate however at this point we will always issue a quote for approval prior to commencement of any alterations so there are no shock fees.

Are there any other costs that I need to be aware of when completing the design of my home?

There are a number of professional consultants that may be required throughout the design process depending on your project that are outside our scope of fees and expertise. During your initial consultation with the team they will identify these additional consultants that you may require. These include surveyors, engineers, certifiers, town planners, waste water consultants and energy efficiency consultants. Some clients will also go a step further and also choose to engage Landscape Architects and Interior Designers.

Do you have a preferred builder or can we choose our own?

Our team works with a number of builders within Queensland and interstate. We are happy to work alongside whichever builder you choose and we can also provide you with recommendations for particular builders who might be best suited to your project. Have a look at our industry page to see some of the builders we have previously worked with.

What if we decide to not proceed half way through the process?

All of our projects are broken down into stages and there are no time frames or commitments to future stages. If you decide not to proceed with your project at any point all we need from you is instructions in writing and any unpaid invoices finalised for the most recent stage our team is working on. As an example if you instruct our team to complete preliminary working drawings for your project and the team begins working on them but before they are issued you decide to not proceed you will still be required to pay the fees for the preliminary working drawings and these will be issued to you.
